A group of our fabulous pupils visited the Science & Media Museum to help with a special project.
The museum asked us to take part in some filming for their brand new ‘Sound & Vision’ galleries, to help show users & schools how they can use the space! This meant we got lots of time to play with the new features and explore the space really well!
We also got to work with other children from Newby Primary School, & loved meeting some new friends! When the film comes out, we will be sure to share it so you can all see!

Understanding the World: Computing
Our Lower Galaxy pupils have being contributing to an ebook when comparing Bradford to different cities. This has involved us using the immersive room to ‘visit’ different cities around the world, such as Paris, Venice and Multan (Pakistan) and take our own photos of the sights we see and even explore what colour filter we want on the different cities.
Our Upper Galaxy pupils have been voting which activities they want to engage with, such as sand or water, and then collecting this data and making a sensory textures chart to see what activity is the classes favourite!

Next term we'll be focusing on the nursery rhyme ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. At home can you sing the nursery rhyme with your child? Can you copy the actions? Can you go on a spider hunt in the garden or at the park? Can you engage in water play, filling and emptying in the bath or in the sink?
Next term, our Expressive Art and Design lesson is Drama. At home, could you and your child put on a performance? Could you do lots of facial expressions to get into different characters or make different sounds? Could you invite the family round and be let your child be the star of their own show?
Next half term, we’ll be learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of a fair and kind world. You might like to talk at home about what your child’s dream for the world would be! In maths, pupils learned to tell the time to the hour and half past in Autumn 1. You could continue reinforcing this at home by asking your child to spot the time on clocks or tell you when it’s time for favourite activities.
Over the half term, we would love for you to go on an Autumn hunt with an empty basket! What can you find? Acorns, pine cones, coloured leaves? 🍁 Does your child show a preference to the dry crunchy leaves? Or the hard bumpy pine cones? Who can find the longest stick on your walk? The biggest leaf? Can your child match the objects that are the same? How many different coloured leaves can you find? Is your empty basket now full?
This activity explores lots of what we have learnt in Maths over the term and what we will be learning when we return after the holidays. We look forward to seeing how your Autumn walk goes and what you find!
Children in the Meteors Pathway are invited to go on an Autumn walk and collect some materials they could make an Autumn collage with. They could gather some leaves, sticks, acorns & conkers in different colours to create their own Autumn pictures onto paper on the ground!

We've had a pretty good start to the year with our attendance, well done everyone! Our whole school attendance has been 89.41%
Rockets: 87.64%
Meteors: 93.5%
Galaxies: 72%
Comets: 91.44%
Astronauts: 92.44%
After October half term, you will be receiving Dojo messages and letters updating you on your child's attendance figures. You may be invited in for a meeting to discuss how we can get your child's attendance above 90%.
One issue that can affect a lot of our pupils' attendance is getting ill due to not getting a lot of nutrients from restricted diets. Some of our learners can also refuse to take medicine due to the taste and smell also.

Since joining in 2020, I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the dedication, skill, and passion of our staff, who work tirelessly to provide

the very best educational experiences for our pupils. Together, we deliver an ambitious, specialist, and personalised curriculum that enables every child to thrive. We believe that learning to communicate is a vital foundation for our pupils; helping them to access the wider world, keep themselves safe, and grow towards greater independence.
At Co-op Academy Delius, we place partnership at the heart of everything we do. By working closely with families, medical and non-medical professionals, Community Council Members, and the wider community, we ensure that the holistic needs of our pupils are met. The voices of all those who are important in our pupils’ lives are not only valued, but actively shape the ongoing development of our curriculum. My vision is for our Academy to remain a safe, positive, nurturing, and aspirational place where pupils are provided with irresistible opportunities to engage in learning, and where both staff and pupils feel valued, supported, and celebrated for their achievements. I warmly invite you to explore our website and social media to discover more about our work - or better still, come and visit us to experience first-hand the inspirational environment that makes Co-op Academy Delius such a special place.

At Delius, both staff and children are excited to embrace Makaton through engaging initiatives like a Makaton lunch club for staff, a signing choir that helps children learn through music, and formal courses now available for parents! Delius are very lucky to have 2 in house Makaton tutors , Sarah Kelly who is a local Makaton tutor and Stacey Hamilton who is a Regional Makaton tutor.
Makaton Myth-busters
Myth #1 -
Myth- Makaton is the same as British sign language (BSL)
Fact - Makaton is a communication program not a language in itself. It uses signs, symbols and speech. BSL is a complete and complex language with its own grammar
Myth #2
Myth - Makaton is only for children
Fact - Makaton can be used by anyone, regardless of age to aid communication. It is used by children, teenagers and adults.
Makaton sign of the week
At Delius we have a sign of the week, each week we demonstrate a sign for the staff during briefing . We are now expanding our audience for the sign of the week, each week Stacey and a child from Delius will demonstrate the sign of the week and this will be posted on our Facebook.
Check out our facebook weekly for a new sign
So far this half term we have themed them to Autumn and we have had:
October
Autumn
Ghost
Halloween
Makaton Course for Parents
Over the last year Stacey and Sarah have trained 2 sets of parents,We are hoping to put some of the parents who have already completed their level 1 and 2 through their level 3 and eventually level 4.
Later this year some of our staff will also be moving onto their level 2 makaton, to future expand their makaton vocab. Stacey has also been involved in training staff from other Co-op schools to help aid their communication with their children.

The children are settling in well into swimming and are starting to learn the warm up songs and the cool down songs. The children this week have been reassessed for floatation equipment and have made fantastic progress in which some of the children no longer need noodles and other children have been downgraded in arm bands.
The star class of the term is class 3 where all the children are in a circle and singing the warm up song. Well done.
Swimming Star children are:
Junior from Class 2 who is making fantastic progress in building up his confidence within the pool by standing up near the steps in the shallow end with adult encouragement.
Zunair from Class 3 was unsure of the pool at first and is now swimming around independently.
Nickodem from Red Base who was nervous at first when he couldn't feel the floor of the pool but is now swimming independently with only one arm band on her arm.
