In Communication, Language and Literacy, Class 2’s story has been ‘The Day the Crayons quit’. In our story, the children have been learning about lots of different colours, exploring a range of stimuli and different scents to represent each colour. Whilst engaging in their story, the children have been using their own specific communication strategy to request for different items and have been using the symbols ‘like’ and ‘don’t like’ to independently communicate which resources they enjoyed exploring.

In Mathematics, Class 2 have engaging in lots of different number songs and learning about positional language. Class 2 have worked really hard with their positional language activities, learning about IN, OUT, UNDER & OVER - they have all worked really hard listening to positional words and completing the activities.

In PSED, Class 2 have been learning about keeping healthy through exercise and healthy eating. Class 2 have engaged and participated in different exercises to keep their bodies healthy such as star jumps, running, touching their toes and bouncing on the trampoline. As well as this, they have been learning about healthy foods by touching, smelling and tasting different fruits & vegetables such as apples, bananas, peppers & oranges.

In RE, Class 2 have been learning about the rituals undertaken before the Islamic Prayer. Class 2 have shown that they can do all the different actions whilst on a prayer mat by copying the adult, they also enjoyed a class trip to the local Mosque where they could put their learning from the classroom out into the community.

In Understanding the World, Class 2 have been doing Computing & have had access to ipads during their lessons. Within their computing lessons, Class 2 have learnt about consent of taking pictures using yes & no symbols when asking their peers if they would like a photo as well as taking their own photos of themselves using different apps such as Photobox to create different effects.

In Expressive Arts and Design, Class 2 been enjoying their music lesson playing instruments such as xylophones, glockenspiels and maracas. Throughout the lessons, Class 2 have been encouraged to play these independently making their own sound pattern, using symbols to request for the different instruments and listening to adults saying  ‘FAST’ or ‘SLOW’ to how they can play their instruments.

In Physical Development, Class 2 have been showing off their dance moves in a carousel of activities. Class 2 stream their PE lessons with the rest of Lower Primary Meteors so they can engage in circle dancing activities with different peers, Class 2 have been holding their peers and adults hands moving around in circles at different speeds and choosing which way they would like to go through the use of symbols.

In Communication, Language and Literacy, Class 2 have been learning about Traditional Tales and this term have been enjoying the story ‘Hansel & Gretel’. The children have been exploring a range of different stimuli linked with different aspects of the story such as leaves, branches, pom poms and different scents. Whilst engaging in their story, the children have been using a range of different communication strategies to support their learning such as PECS symbols, Communication boards, sound buttons and concrete resources.

In Mathematics, Class 2 have been engaging in lots of fun activities such as counting, patterns and learning about 3D shapes. Class 2 have been working very hard in their number lessons and have been engaging in a range of counting songs such as ‘5 little ducks’ & ‘5 little speckled frogs’, exploring the different animals and looking at the numerals 1-5. In their Shape, Space and Measure lessons, Class 2 have been learning about 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cone, pyramid) by filling and emptying different containers using a range of stimuli such as water, rice and glitter.

In PSED, Class 2 have been learning about their emotions (happy, sad and angry) and engaging in this lesson through the use of musical instruments. Class 2 have been enjoying matching the different emotions to different instruments such as when we feel angry, we bang the drum or when we feel happy we play the xylophone.

In Understanding the World, Class 2 have been enjoying learning about their different senses in our Science lessons. They have been learning about their senses in a fun way of exploring different resources such as ‘taste’, the children enjoyed tasting ice cream or for ‘sight’ the children enjoyed looking at their peers in different colours.

In Expressive Arts and Design we have been learning to use different media to create our very own castles.  We have had lots of opportunities to get very messy and create our castles by using symbols to make our own choices of colours and materials. Class 2 have used lots of different tools to create their own art work such as paintbrushes, glue sticks and rolling pins, bingo dabbers and sponges. 

In Physical Development, Class 2 have been showing off their fantastic football skills by scoring lots of goals. We have been learning to kick, dribble and move with control when we have the ball as well as listening to ‘STOP’ and ‘GO’. We have also been learning to listen to single word instructions whilst in the rebound room and they are all doing some fantastic listening!
