In Communication, Language and  Literacy, we have been experiencing exciting olympic themed stories such as ‘Ready Steady Mo’ by Mo Farah and will be moving onto the story ‘Splash’ by Claire Cashmore next half term.  Using our range of communication strategies we have been learning to retell the story using symbols and sentences to create a storyboard for the text.  In writing sessions we have created an Olympic fact file about a range of olympic sports.

In Mathematics we have been learning about multiplication and about time . We have learnt to count 2s, 5s and 10s. Some children have also been working on writing multiplication number sentences to match groups of concrete objects. Pupils have also learnt about the key vocabulary related to time and apply this knowledge while describing, sorting and ordering events. They have also named and sequenced days of the week and months of the year.

In PSHE we have been learning about keeping safe in the community and identifying safe and unsafe situations. Pupils have done a great job at recognising people who help us in the community and how to contact them in an emergency situation.

In Understanding the World we have used technology such as computers and ipads to design a digital poster to show how to stay safe in the community. We have compared and commented on existing posters and identified which are good posters and why.

In RE we have learnt about sikhism. We have learnt about the ten gurus and their qualities. We have used a range of communication strategies and pictures to identify and retell the qualities of the ten gurus in sikhism.

In Expressive Arts and Design we have explored a range of musical pieces by making movements in response to the music, we have enjoyed moving like ballerina’s as swans to the swan lake moderato music piece. We have also copied 3 beats to the music using body percussion such as tapping, clapping and stomping.

In Physical Development our focus this term has been Ballet. We have learnt the five basic positions in ballet and how to perform the arabesque, a pirouette and a Jete. We have worked hard on composing a dance that reflects ballet.

In Communication, Language and  Literacy,we have been learning to answer who, what and where questions about our literacy text ‘Zog.’  We have used colourful semantics and symbols to answer who, what and where questions. In Writing we have been learning to form letters and write 4 word sentences to describe the dragons and improve our writing skills by holding the pencil in a tripod grip.

In Mathematics we have been learning our numbers bonds to 5 and simple addition and subtraction using concrete objects. We have also been learning to identify and understand the add, takeaway and equals symbols. We have also learned about the weight of a range of items using the correct terminology and using non standard units to weigh a range of objects.

In PSED we have been learning about feelings and recognising and expressing how we feel and why. We have been using mirrors to pull our best facial expressions for different emotions such as happy, sad, angry and scared. We have also learnt about zones of regulation using the colour monster story and strategies that we may use when feeling a strong emotion.

In Understanding the World we have been identifying and categorising a range of living and non living things including humans, animals, plants and objects.. Pupils witnessed and enjoyed a very special arrival of the Delius chicks. We have learnt and ordered the life cycle of a chick. Well done class 7!

In Expressive Arts and Design we have commented and chosen our favourite art linked to mythical creatures. In class 7 we designed leprechauns, griffins and many more. We used a range of materials to design, draw and paint mythical creatures.

In Physical Development our focus this half term has been football. We have learnt to anticipate when a ball is being passed to us. We have developed our football skills through dribbling, passing, defending and shooting. We have worked well by passing the ball to each other and using the right amount of power adapting our skills fantastically.
